What is QuoteVote — and why use it?
QuoteVote helps you understand a tradesperson's price using real homeowner quotes and public opinion. Browse what other homeowners were quoted for similar work, see the job details, photos and verdicts, and get useful context around the price you've been given.
Got your own quote? Post it, share it on Facebook, WhatsApp or anywhere else, and ask people what they think about the price based on their own experience or knowledge. It works whether the job is still ahead or has already been completed.

A cheap quote can save you money. It can also be the first warning sign.
Unfortunately, cowboy and rogue traders do exist. Some start with a price that looks impossible to refuse, get the job agreed quickly, then demand a deposit, add “unexpected” work, push the price up or disappear before the job is finished. Others charge heavily for work that was unnecessary in the first place.
If one person quotes £1,000 and another quotes £2,000 for what appears to be the same job, that gap deserves checking. The cheaper quote might be genuine — but it can also mean important work has been left out, cheaper materials are being used, the trader lacks the right experience, or the low price is simply being used to get a quick yes.
Suspiciously low can become very expensive
- A very low quote can leave out preparation, materials, waste, VAT or parts of the job.
- Some rogue traders start cheap, then keep finding “extra” work once they are already on site.
- Poor workmanship can leave you paying twice — once for the original job and again to put it right.
- If a price is far below everything else, ask exactly why before you accept it.
Watch the money before work starts
- Be cautious with large upfront deposits, full payment in advance or cash-only pressure.
- Agree staged payments for larger jobs so you are not handing over most of the money before seeing progress.
- Get the price, scope, materials, VAT and any exclusions in writing before work begins.
- Pressure to decide immediately is a reason to slow down, not speed up.
Give yourself something to check against
- See what real homeowners were quoted for similar jobs and what the work actually involved.
- Look beyond the headline price: scope, photos, materials and job details matter.
- Post your own quote and ask people with relevant experience or knowledge what they think.
- Share it with friends, family or local groups and collect more opinions before you commit.
