How QuoteVote data works

QuoteVote is built around homeowner-submitted quotes. A quoted price is not the same thing as the final amount a homeowner ultimately paid, so we keep that distinction explicit everywhere we publish price data.

What counts in price benchmarks

Only genuine homeowner submissions that meet our publication rules are eligible for real price benchmarks. Example or seed scenarios are kept separate and do not count toward medians, averages, ranges or sample sizes.

Why the median comes first

Trades quotes can contain legitimate high and low outliers. When enough data is available, QuoteVote uses the median quoted price as the headline benchmark and may show the mean as secondary context. Typical ranges should be percentile-based rather than simply using the smallest and largest quote.

Sample size and freshness

Every eligible aggregate should state how many genuine submissions it uses, the data period and when the figures were last updated. If there is not enough local evidence, QuoteVote should say so and fall back to a broader regional or UK benchmark instead of presenting false precision.

Community votes

Public voting is designed to be low-friction. Basic browser and server-side abuse controls reduce casual repeat voting without turning participation into an identity check. Community verdicts are opinions about the submitted price and scope; they are not professional valuations or guarantees.

Privacy

QuoteVote does not need a public full home address. Public location data is kept broad, and users are asked not to upload photos showing people, house numbers, addresses or private documents.
